Beauty College May Prepare You For A Number Of Fun And Exciting Professions
To say that my folks were not thrilled when I made the decision to go to beauty school is an understatement. They were certainly mortified. I was going to a good one, but they did not care. The Aveda beauty college, you see, wasn't a prominent institution. My family had been going to Princeton University for about three decades now, and beauty schools were out of the question. They did not see cosmetology as a respectable field. Like many individuals, they thought it was just something for secondary school drop-outs to do. What they did not realize was that cosmetology schools were my passion. It was not just an easy job for me to get. It was something that I wanted to do for a job.
What bothered me most about the response they had to my cosmetology schools decision was the rancor in their eyes. It almost said to me that, if I went to beauty school, I would not be their son anymore. The strange thing is that they have stood by me through every situation. Cosmetology schools were inconceivable, but when I was suspended for getting in fights, they barely punished me at all. It was as if, as long as I was doing something that was considered respectable for men to do, I was alright. When I made the decision to go to cosmetology school, however, it was something different. They didn't say it outright, but it was apparent that they had suspicions about my lifestyle. I did not care. It was what I wanted to do, and it was what I was going to do.
It turns out that beauty school didn't work out exactly as I had thought. Do not get me wrong - I loved the work. The issue was that it was not something that I could see myself doing for 10 or 20 years. I had an apprenticeship with a wedding photographer, and I loved going out on assignments with the wedding photographer and doing makeup for the brides. However, I could not see working for a wedding photographer until the end of time. I finished the beauty school that I was going to, got a job, and used that to pay my way through college. Beauty schools were just a temporary phase after all. Nevertheless, I am glad that I made the choice that I did. If I had not tried out going to cosmetology schools, I never would have known if I was making my own decisions. I would not have been able to engage in college, because I would have believed that I was only doing it because my folks wanted me to. By trying out cosmetology schools, however, I was being my own man.
