A Young Man's Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking Results In A DUI And Time In The Municipal Jail

Richard had an exceptionally difficult time keeping a job. As a matter of fact, due to his lethargy and lack of motivation, he was unemployed far more regularly than he was employed with a job. And when he did secure a job, he had an extremely hard time getting to work when his shift began, he typically received less than passing performance appraisals, and he called off sick so habitually that he usually got fired a week or two after he began working.

Obviously, one of the consequences of Richard's awful employment record was the fact that he was just about flat broke from day-to-day. Regardless of Richard's appalling employment history and financial misconduct, then again, by some means he made it a point to drink a great deal almost everyday.

So it came as no big shock when Richard received a third DWI. When he went before the court, the magistrate explained to Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was deplorable and, consequently, he was going to sentence Richard to spend nine months in jail.

During his time in the city jail, Richard was expected to learn more about alcoholism facts such as alcohol related outcomes and alcohol deaths, about the injurious results of abusive and hazardous drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol treatment. The judge underlined the fact that unless Richard gets quality alcohol therapy and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, he will most likely be spending quite a bit of his time in the local jail.

Richard stated that he understood what the judge was saying but he still asserted that jail was not the most effective verdict. The magistrate saw things in an entirely different Manner and stated that it was his professional job to keep alcoholics off the streets who drive under the influence and who get arrested for multiple DWIs. To corroborate this view, the judge quoted some long-standing, thoroughly evaluated alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics that highlighted some of the damaging outcomes that are correlated with irresponsible and hazardous drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Although Richard realized that he drank in a hazardous and irresponsible manner, he never believed that he was an alcoholic. So it was a big surprise when Richard began having chronic alcoholism signs and symptoms and alcohol withdrawal symptoms about seven-and-a-half after getting locked up in the local jail.

To monitor his symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a harm free manner, Richard was transferred to a rehab hospital for alcohol detoxification and then brought back to the county jail. While locked up in jail Richard undertook alcohol rehabilitation but since he received this counseling as something that was forced upon him, he neglected to take ownership of his excessive drinking.

When his time in jail was over, the magistrate without reservation announced to Richard that he would be under strict scrutiny and would be required to take random urine alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard neglected to take ownership of his drinking problem and how he halfheartedly followed the treatment modus operandi while in the city jail, the judge knew that it was basically a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his hazardous and excessive drinking behavior.

As the judge reflected on Richard's situation, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never figure things out and learn how to live in an adult and accountable manner.
