Linda and Frank have been seeing one another for six-and-a-half years. They met while enrolled in the same financial accounting class at a relatively large, countryside, liberal arts college located in the Eastern part of the United States. While they were mostly good pals at first, they eventually began dating when they were in their third year of college.
Because both of them came from very conventional backgrounds, neither one of them drank very much social drinking stage when they first started to date. As the time passed by, nonetheless, they began to go to more keg parties, happy hours, sorority and fraternity parties, and football bashes. Consequently, they progressively began to drink increasingly more as they progressed in their relationship.
After they graduated from college, they both got jobs in a medium size city that was about eighty-five miles from their undergraduate college. Then they eventually made up their mind to move into the same apartment together.
With any substantial alteration in an individual's life there is regularly something that causes the specific transformation in question. For Frank and Linda the idea of buying a new house and having children was this "method of change." Stated more forcefully, for the first time in their lives, Frank and Linda began to think about their abusive and excessive drinking and the long term adverse effects of alcohol on their health. From a different perspective, although neither one of them ever suffered from alcohol poisoning, received a DWI arrest, or experienced alcohol poisoning symptoms, they realized that their irresponsible and abusive drinking was becoming a thorny issue that they could not overlook any longer. All of these inquiries unmistakably pointed to the same conclusion, namely that Linda and Frank needed to be more aware that they couldn't continue their irresponsible and abusive drinking if their dreams, hopes, and plans were to be brought to fruition.
Once they settled upon this conclusion, they advised their drinking buddies about their their marital plans, about their plans to start a family, and about their goal of buying or building a new house. They also told their drinking pals that they still wanted to hang around with them but that they would be drinking in strict moderation from this time forward so that they could begin realizing their future aspirations, hopes, and dreams.
Much to their amazement, all of their pals expressed relief because they too had been contemplating their lives and concluded that their life-styles were totally centered around drinking. They also realized that they would have to change drastically if they were to become more adult-like and display more care for their plans, their health, and for their careers in the next fifteen or twenty years.
After their frank discussion with their friends about their hopes, aspirations, and dreams, Frank and Linda basically started to have more significant relationships with all of their buddies. The fundamental reason for this was the fact that all of them had the same frame of mind regarding their irresponsible and abusive drinking and their relatively short and long-term goals, aspirations, and plans.
