A Thursday Night Out With Buddies From School At A Local College Tavern Leads To Excessive And Irresponsible Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a studious person who rarely, if ever, drank with her buddies. She seemed almost obsessed about "standing out" academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial perspective.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a highly rated program in sociology. Her logic for this decision was that this academic discipline would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the bulk of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the type of person who worked in a rigorous manner to complete what she started and then would take a breather when she could. As is the case, nonetheless, a good number of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not have anything to do with drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were over and realizing that she had done extremely well on her tests, because of this, she wanted to take a break and do some celebrating.

So Lois and some of her friends from school went to a local tavern where they had a few beers. As the evening progressed, Lois and her friends continued to drink. In actual fact, she was having such an incredible time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about fifty minutes when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, nevertheless, her friends immediately knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she came close to dying due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was thankful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mom and Dad realized how rigorously she studied at school and how little she let herself experience a social life. Nonetheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to avoid abusive and unhealthy drinking.

As a consequence, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking situation presents itself, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was in agreement with this and promised her friends and her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an abusive and irresponsible manner. As stated by Lois, "I never had an inkling that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now know that abusive and excessive drinking is not the best for me. I say publicly that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also had. Stated another way, she instantaneously understood that she had made a mistake and decided that she would never make the same mistake again. If truth be told, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of careless and excessive drinking can result in death.
